Thailand’s Songkran Festival on April 12th to 15th is a family orientated celebration of the traditional Thai New Year. It started in the 13th century as a religious ritual to wash away the sins of the past year, and make merit for the upcoming one, traditions that are still largely practiced before the festival turns wet and wild as the world’s biggest water fight, and Phuket Old Town is an ideal place to celebrate it.
The Phuket Old Town attractions and the colorful Sino-Portuguese architecture make wonderful scenes for some photo memories. However, visitors will not have to venture far outside of the hotel before getting soaked in the all-around party atmosphere that comes with the festival.
Things generally calm down for the evenings, so visitors can venture out to Phuket Old Town and Talang Road to sample the diverse local cuisines on offer in the town’s many superb restaurants.
